Assignment 2 - Needful things (Rep Techniques)

Commenced on our assignment number 2 since last friday. For this assignment, we are supposed to choose an object and make use of representational techniques to abstract the object into an icon.

It was a rather fun concept to learn as it opened my eyes to really identify impt aspects of an object (the shapes, the curves, the color etc) and making use of these aspects to simplify and object until when a persen sees the icon, he or she can immediately knw wat the object is..

for this assignment, i've chosen a military sword as my object for abstraction. took pictures from several angles of the sword before starting to pen down the sword.




Several comments were given during the online tutorial earlier. most commented that my last abstraction is still rather "unabstract" Will continue to work on the abstraction and show my final work here once completed..

Assignment 1: 1 x 2 Final Artwork

Had the crit for the final 2 art work today in class..

comments included colour usage for my filmmaking piece and proportion matters for my water sports piece..

my boat seem kinda big and from far, it seems like and "E" instead of the intended "F".

for my filmmaking piece, it seems like "FAX" instead of "FA". Will try to shorten the film reel to make the "A" stand out more.. gotta change some colours too. =)

anyway, here are the final 2:

Assignment 1: 2 x 2 selected roughs.

For this part of the exercise, we had to select 2 roughs from all the various sketches and blow them up on A5 for c&c in class.

Concept 1: I like movies/film making.





The artwork is made up of various hardwares u find in film-making, like softbox, tripods and movie slates jus to name a few.

Concept 2: I like water sports.





For this particular concept, i decide to play on the different human postures i observed when people are doing sports. Primarily derived from the way we hold our paddles.

I'm currently in the midst of completing the final artwork for each concept.. do stay tuned!

Assignment 1: Me, Myself and I

For this assignment, we're supposed to come up with 2 concepts, or 2 things which we like or hate, and create our names out of it.

My 2 Concepts:
1. I like movies/film making.
2. I like water sports.
